Ramli: Nazri wrong in dismissing need for tribunal

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz is wrong in shooting down the idea of a tribunal against attorney general Abdul Gani Patail and former inspector-general of police, Musa Hassan, says former Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Ramli Yusuff.

He said what Nazri may have been referring to is the `black-eye incident' which he also feels was not properly ventilated.

"I think what Nazri was referring to when he said this matter was answered in the parliament refers to the 'black-eye incident'. It is not in regard to the new allegation against Gani and Musa.

"The MACC was used and used the information against the whistleblowers who had earlier led police to the arrest of the underworld kingpin to turnover their statement," Ramli (right) told Malaysiakini.

The whistleblowers, he said had also come forward describing the ACA's officers attempt to turn them over. Ramli said Gani does not have the power to call up the highly confidential files as it is against the Inspector-General's Standing Orders (IGSO).

"If you ask any previous IGP they know that it is highly confidential and no one can gain access except the handling officer," he said.

The rest, the former CCID director said you know the story.

He added as to the black-eye incident there is one former senior judge out of three who feels that Gani and Musa were not cleared of the allegations and these remains unanswered.

NONEFormer Kuala Lumpur CID chief Mat Zain Ibrahim, had in an open letter on Friday, said he was willing to testify before a tribunal on the alleged misconduct of Gani and Musa in the "black-eye" case involving Anwar Ibrahim. He claimed the MACC had wrongly classified the case as abuse of power whereelse it should be fabrication of evidence which he claims would nail Gani and Musa.

Nazri (left) had on Monday rejected recent calls for a tribunal be held against Gani and Musa, before which Ramli had earlier told Malaysiakini that he was willing to testify.

On Tuesday, PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin had also called for a probe on the alleged misconduct by Gani and Musa `as they affect the integrity of agencies meting out justice'

Links with underworld

Several serving police officers have also approached Malaysiakini as reported on Saturday to testify at tribunal hearing on the alleged misconduct of the two if it is called.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein when told of this development and asking him to comment via Twitter twice, had not made any statement.

Hishammuddin has been asking for evidence since last Monday when the issue was brought up earlier following Ramli's leap year birthday speech in which hehad alleged that Musa, Gani and the ACA had conspired to fix him and six of his people.

Malaysiakini had reported on March 11, the alleged links by Musa, and Gani had used the ACA to turnover the whistleblowers statement, resulting in six police officers being charged with fabrication of evidence.

All were acquitted without their defence being called, the last was freed in the middle of last year. Ramli had paid tribute to these officers in his birthday speech, who had since been reinstated by IGP Ismail Omar.

The news portal also carried a report on the affidavit by the underworld figure Goh Cheng Poh's habeas corpus application where it clearly states that his detention and restrictive residence was illegal as they did not get Musa's approval while Gani had cleared him of any wrongdoing.

Ramli in his affidavit in reply to the application said it would be up to the AG to rebut or deny Goh's the statement. However, there was no reply to the underworld kingpin's allegation.

Musa had denied his involvement with the alleged kingpin and claims he had been cleared by Gani and the ACA. Malaysiakini has attempted to contact Gani over the matter but to no avail.
