'Najib, Muhyiddin, make public the NFC agreement'

PKR wants the prime minister and his deputy to make public the loan agreement with National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) to clear the air over the scandal.

PKR director of strategy Rafizi Ramli said in order to unravel all questions surrounding the fiasco, he suggested Najib Abdul Razak and Muhyiddin Yassin direct the Finance Ministry, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry and the company to "fully disclose to the public" the agreement on the RM250 million loan.

By doing so, he added, the rakyat can judge for themselves whether it is reasonable for the government to approve the loan under such lax conditions.

He was responding to company CEO Wan Shahinur Izmir Salleh’s comment that the Finance Ministry had not placed conditions on how the RM250 soft loan for the Feedlot project were to be used.

He questioned how the loan could be used “for private purposes, including accumulating expensive assets such as condominiums, land and a luxury car”.

“This claim raises a thousand new questions,” said Rafizi, who is at the forefront of allegations that has cumulated into the NFC scandal.

Amongst them, he said, was how ministers involved could approve the huge loan for the family of a minister to “spend as they please”.
“What is the owner and management of NFC - who comprise of (women’s minister) Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and her family - giving as collateral and personal guarantee as part of the loan agreement?” he asked.

Rafizi also asked how the policy of giving lenient loan conditions would ensure that national projects like NFC can be run effectively, and how many such loans had been given to companies and individuals linked to the government’s leaders.

Rafizi had previously attacked NFC and Shahrizat on many occasions, alleging that they have misused the loan, which was meant for developing the beef industry, for unrelated expenses.

Both Shahrizat and NFC have consistently denied any wrongdoing.
