Explain ‘no-action’ on boxer’s case, AG told

DAP MP Gobind Singh warns that if an explanation is not given within 48 hours, he will move a motion against the AG in Parliament.

PETALING JAYA: DAP leader Gobind Singh wants Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail to explain the lack of action on the part of the police to investigate the case of a national boxer who was assaulted by a group of people.

The Puchong MP demanded an explanation within the next 48 hours.

“I call upon the AG to explain why no action has been taken against anyone up until now despite the serious nature of the allegations made in the police report.

“As a MP, I demand that the AG respond within the time stated, failing which I will move a motion against him in Parliament next week in respect of this matter,” he said.

Gobind was commenting on the case of national boxer Mohd Farkhan Mohd Haron who was assaulted on May 6.

Reports claimed that a member of the Johor royalty was involved in the fracas.

Gobind said Farkhan’s case should be investigated since there were various provisions such as Sections 326, 307, 362 and 506 of the Penal Code which provide for investigations into assault.

The lawyer added that no investigation was conducted even though a police report on the assault was lodged on May 21.
