"There is nothing wrong with (the) political contribution. It is not an offence.
"If you want to make it an offence, you must enact the legislation," Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz told the Dewan Rakyat during Question Time today.
Without any law to prohibit contributions to political parties, the minister reasoned, there was nothing wrong with such transactions.
This, Nazri said, went for all political contributions, for “(anyone can) contribute, so contribute as much as you want”.
In 2008 Sabah timber tycoon Micheal Chia was caught in Hong Kong with RM40 million cash in Singapore currency in his luggage before he could board a flight to Malaysia.
Chia was detained and charged with money-laundering.
Chia told the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) investigators that the money was for Sabah Chief Minister Musa Aman.
However, Prime Minister Mohd Najib Abdul told reporters after chairing an Umno supreme council meeting recently that the money was a political contribution to Sabah Umno and it was all right to accept it.
'No graft involved'
Nazri also said the ICAC found “no element of corruption” in the RM40 million bound for Sabah Umno.
He therefore believes that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should stop pursuing the case.
To this Abdul Khalid Samad (PAS-Shah Alam, left) stood up to interject that despite ICAC saying there was no element of graft in the case, it did not mean the MACC will find it so, and should investigate independently.
Rahmah Dahlan (BN-Kota Belud) then asked about the RM3.5 million in donations which he said was used by the DAP to build its Penang headquarters.
Rahman said that a DAP leader informed him that the building was funded through contributions from "loyal supporters".
To this Nazri again reiterated that there was no legislation against political contributions and nothing wrong with it.
"Indeed, for BN, we can get more contributions as we have more members," he said.
Shortkly afterwards, at a press conference at the Parliament lobby, DAP's Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai defended the party's Penang headquarters, saying it was built with money from donors that was declared and managed transparently.
Tan challenged the BN to do the same and declare all the political contributions the coalition has received as well.
Opposition is so envy with the Government.ReplyDelete
Envy doen't come close to it. They are vying for power. Sincecthey have no proof of whst have they have done for the past five years, they just use this issue to garner support fro, the masses. Apart from that, they use this issue to cover their flaws.Delete
of course.. Pakatan struggle is not for the people or this country, but for themselves.. you can judge them by looking at their luxury life..Delete
Enough la trying to figure out the another 'truth'ReplyDelete
The government have given out the explanation but the opposition keeps on refuting ad drumming this issue but only up to that. They have no proof they don't even want to set the record straight. To make matter worst, they they are doing this for their own personel gain at the expense of the people.Delete
the MACC should also investigate Pakatan Rakyat especially khalid ibrahim who always abuse the selangor state public funds for their political interest..Delete
Opposition is not that 'clean' either. They want to divert the attention in order to cover up their misdeeds.ReplyDelete
Indeed. A pot calling a kettle black.Delete
yup.. till now Anwar still unable to answer where did the money come from to rent the private jet and also how many money they used for that purpose..Delete
Different issue please.ReplyDelete
How come they, the opposition did not even address the scandals that occured in the states that is under their control. Convinietly this matter came to light thus divert everyone's attention.Delete
BN leaders should bringing up the issues about Pakatan leaders luxury life.. I think its enough to topple them in this coming election..Delete
Taken into account the outroar in multiple of alternative news portal and blogs, i beoieve there's always two sidecof every story. Another matter worth looking into is thst not one of these portals manage to highlight the fact that this matter has already been clarified amd ICAC has indeed ruled this case. I believe that what Nazri said have a point but not from a political perspective. Even if Nazri himself goes to Homg Kong and seek out ICAC to clarify this matter, the opposition instictively will hurl back more accusation all for the sake of tilting the favour to their side during the incoming election. Therefore i belied that when he said that PAKATAN should go and seek ICAC clarification on the matter is well justified.ReplyDelete
as a respected corruption fighter in the world, ICAC would definitely avoiding from making even a tiny mistakes..Delete
Having said this, if PAKATAN is truely sincere in championing the people and not simply using this issue for their political gains, then perhaps they should indeed fly off to Hong Kong and seek verification from ICAC on this matter. I personally think that ICAC would not bend for favours that might put their spotless reputation in jepordy.ReplyDelete
Pakatan should have no problem to go there since they already have private luxury jet..Delete
Oppositions just able to give 'sweet words, sweet promise' but they not able to perform it.ReplyDelete
They are playing on people's sentiment. That's all they are good at. What's really frustrating is that they cannot adress issue that they pointed out. Take example of poverty. What are the opposition takevon this matter?Delete
that's why they fail to fulfill their promise "air percuma" in Selangor..Delete
People like challenge the ability and professionalism even the reputation of ICAC since they are international bodyReplyDelete
in term of corruption, ICAC is much much better than Pakatan politicians.. politician is politician, not corruption investigator..Delete
"There is nothing wrong with (the) political contribution. It is not an offence."Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz told the Dewan RakyatReplyDelete
opposition should agree with it since they are also depend on political contribution from outsider to continue their political struggle in this country..Delete
"If you want to make it an offence,ReplyDelete
you must enact the legislation,"
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz told the Dewan Rakyat during Question Time today.
if opposition believe that they are in the right side, then they should provide more new evidence that can be used to associate the money laundering scandal to umno or musa aman..Delete
Do not belive the oppositions. They tend to lie uReplyDelete
yup.. their mouth is a trap and their voice is a poison..Delete
He cited Selangor state as an example where he said that it was once a progressive state until Pakatan Rakyat took over and failed to solve the people’s problems in the state. - Musa AmanReplyDelete
selangor government have no money to subsidize the water in the state as promised, but they have so much money to buy luxury bus and to finance legal cost for their MP..Delete
However, Prime Minister Mohd Najib Abdul told reporters after chairing an Umno supreme council meeting recently that the money was a political contribution to Sabah Umno and it was all right to accept it.ReplyDelete
for opposition, only they have the right to accept political contribution.. that is how hypocrite they are..Delete
ReplyDelete
There are no laws stopping organisations from receiving foreign funding.ReplyDelete
Delete
unless the funds is channeled or obtained by illegal means.. then the funds need to be stopped by law..Delete
If it can’t be linked to any offences that threaten security, or linked to anything that amounts to acts of treason, then we cannot act based solely on the fact that they are receiving foreign fundingReplyDelete
ICAC and MACC have their own investigation procedures.. all possibilities will be taken into consideration before deciding the person is guilty or not..Delete
The proposal to have a new law to prevent foreign intervention in the country through the influx of foreign funds should be given fair consideration.ReplyDelete
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said Saturday that the proposal should be studied so that there existed an Act that would prevent such an intervention which aimed at threatening national security, as well as peace and harmony in the country.Delete
I'm sure that Anwar will oppose it and I would not be surprised if Anwar will organize rally again.. because their political funds come from outside (NED/SOROS)..Delete
"The influx of foreign funds for such purposes will cause us to become agents of foreign powers and we will be forced to create lies to destabilize the country. That is very bad.ReplyDelete
“We have to make sure things like this will not happen in our country."
Nazri said this in response to the proposal made by several members of Parliament that it was high time for Malaysia to have a law to regulate the influx of foreign funds, in particular to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), that was aimed at destabilising the country.Delete
what you have said already practiced by opposition especially PAKATAN RAKYAT..Delete
“Yang Berhormat bercakap tentang wang yang dibawa masuk daripada Hong Kong. Saya hendak sebut di sini itu bahawa siasatan yang dijalankan bukan daripada SPRM. Siasatan dijalankan oleh ICAC iaitu Hong Kong yang terkenal dengan penyiasatan without fear or favor. ICAC telah pun menyatakan itu bahawa tidak ada kes rasuah di sini. Soal sumbangan kepada mana-mana pertubuhan pun tidak ada kesalahan. Kalau macam mana-mana parti pun hendak menerima wang tidak ada kesalahan, boleh terima orang hendak sumbang bagilah, apa salahnya.”-Nazri in answer to supplementary question by the DAP MP for Cheras, Tan Kok Wai.ReplyDelete
the real evil is Pakatan Rakyat.. they said they have no money to continue their political struggle.. the really need donations from poor people.. but now, they already have luxury jet, luxury bus, luxury car, luxury bungalow and etc.. where did the money come from?? why not Anwar explain about it? why not pakatan supporters blame this party who shows their luxury life??ReplyDelete
