DAP Youth: Malacca MCA man a ‘low-class politician’

KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — The DAP Socialist Youth today blasted the Malacca MCA chief for using the state assembly to accuse Lim Guan Eng of an extramarital affair, calling it an act of “political desperation” and a misuse of legal immunity.

On Monday, Malacca MCA chief and assemblyman for Duyong Datuk Gan Tian Loo was allowed by state Speaker Datuk Othman Muhamad to challenge fellow representative Betty Chew to answer allegations that her husband, Lim, had an affair and that she had assaulted the former aide over the matter.

“We challenge him (Gan), if he has proof, to repeat the allegations outside the Dewan. So Lim Guan Eng and Betty can take legal action and let this matter be proved in court,” said Anthony Loke, the movement’s chief.

“Failing to do so reaffirms that he’s a liar and a low-class politician to hide behind legal immunity,” Loke said, referring to the protection from lawsuits granted to lawmakers when making statements in the state assembly.

“There’s no video about Lim Guan Eng. So don’t compare Lim Guan Eng to yourself,” Loke also told Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, adding that the MCA president had been “caught” in the act.

Dr Chua had yesterday praised himself for having what he claimed was the courage to quit all political posts after he was secretly filmed having sex with his lover.

The MCA leader had also challenged Lim to quit politics just as he had.

Lim had earlier yesterday denied having the secret affair with a former aide and said he was not like Dr Chua, who had publicly admitted to extramarital relations in 2008 after video recordings of his trysts were publicly leaked.

Lim denounced Gan's allegations as the ruling Barisan Nasional’s smear campaign against him ahead of national polls due within a year and dared the Duyong assemblyman to repeat the statement outside the state legislative assembly where the latter is not protected from being sued.

Loke had also today claimed MCA had "stooped so low to launch personal attacks in the state assembly".

He asked if MCA had launched such attacks to "divert attention" from the party's "failure" to "deliver their promise to announce the decision on the Kuantan Chinese independent school".
