Guan Eng, Soi Lek to square off in second debate

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Lim Guan Eng and Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek will square off in a second debate organised by the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (Asli) this coming July 8.

The second debate, said Asli CEO Datuk Dr Michael Yeoh, will focus on the different policies between BN and PR.

The debate titled “BN and PR: Whose policies benefit the community more?” will touch on issues such as education, healthcare, economic prosperity and poverty alleviation.

It will be held from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.

Lim, who is DAP secretary-general and Penang chief minister, said in a statement today he has accepted the debate invitation.

An aide from Dr Chua’s office has confirmed with The Malaysian Insider that the MCA president will be taking part as well.

The first debate between Lim and the MCA president was held last February in Mandarin and was titled “Chinese at the crossroads: Is the two-party system becoming a two-race system?”

Critics slammed the first debate as another Barisan Nasional-Pakatan Rakyat bashing session, after both Lim and Dr Chua took turns attacking each other’s coalitions.

Lim since then requested for a follow-up session, this time to be held in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
The “Lim-Chua Debate 2.0”, said Yeoh, was in response to Lim’s request for a follow-up debate.
