Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar has promised a transparent investigation into the alleged affray involving federal minister Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz's son and his bodyguards last month.
Ismail (right) said police officers will carry out the probe based on the basis of rule of law.“You must have trust in the (law) enforcement agency. We have certified investigation officers. There have been a lot of cases over the past 10 years (when) you have seen how professional we have been (in investigations),” he said today.
“Please do not prejudice us (with the allegation of a cover-up). If we have black apples (in the force), we will act on them.”
Ismail was responding to concerns of a cover-up of the case in which Nazri's son Mohamad Nedim, and his bodyguards were said to have assaulted a security supervisor at the Mont Kiara condominium in Kuala Lumpur on March 19.
The police are in possession of closed-circuit television footage of the alleged incident, but have yet to complete investigations.
It is learnt that the police have yet to record statements from Nedim or the security supervisor.
Brickfields OCPD Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid has classified the case under Section 160 of the Penal Code for affray.
However, PKR vice-president N Surendran has called for reclassification of the case to assault or causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
Yesterday, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo, demanded that the CCTV footage be made public to ascertain the truth.
