Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s voting constituency appears to have been changed without his knowledge, as evident through a search of the Election Commission’s website.

NONEChecks on the website showed that Khalid (right) is now a voter in the Lembah Pantai constituency held by PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

His voting locality is listed as Rumah Kakitangan Universiti under the Universiti voting district.

However, it is learnt that the MB previously voted in the Petaling Jaya Selatan parliamentary constituency. It is unclear how long he has been a voter there.

When contacted, an official from the MB's office, who declined to be named, confirmed that Khalid had not made any changes to his voting constituency nor his identity card.

“As far as he knows, he is still a Petaling Jaya (Selatan) voter and his address on his identity card is Pasir Tuntung, Kuala Selangor - his hometown,” said the source who is close to the MB.

The source added that the MB, who was made aware of this recently is “concerned” that there could be tampering and will check with the EC and the Registration Department.

Lembah Pantai, which is located in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, and Petaling Jaya Selatan are neighbouring constituencies.

Inside job to sabotage the MB?

Malaysiakini conducted a check when Seputeh Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafii posted on his blog that the MB has become a “phantom voter” in Lembah Pantai.

NONEMohd Razlan had also alleged that the shift in the voting constituency, which could have only happened if the MB had changed his  identity card address, was an inside job to sabotage Khalid.

Khalid would not be able to seek a second term as a Selangor assemblyperson if his identity card shows that he is a Kuala Lumpur resident.

According to the federal constitution, to be a member of a state legislative assembly, one must be a resident of the state.

This would mean that he would not be able to seek a second term as menteri besar.
“Whatever excuse or reasons they may give to turn Khalid into a phantom voter in Lembah Pantai, it is clear that they intend to kill Khalid’s political career,” Mohd Razlan posted on his blog.
