Pakatan will probe A-G, Musa if elected to power, says Kit Siang

March 26, 2012

KUALA SELANGOR, March 26 — Pakatan Rakyat (PR) will investigate Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan for alleged criminal involvement if elected to federal power, Lim Kit Siang pledged last night.

“Pakatan Rakyat will form a judicial tribunal to find out whether the criminal allegations against the former IGP, Attorney-General are real,” he told 5,000 people at a PR ceramah here.

Lim (picture), the DAP parliamentary leader, stressed that a tribunal was “necessary” as claims have been made against the two by senior police officers — former Bukit Aman commercial criminal investigation chief Datuk Ramli Yusoff and ex-Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Mat Zain Ibrahim.

Both have urged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to probe Abdul Gani and Musa for claims of abuse of power.
But Najib had said on Friday the claims did not merit a tribunal as they were mere allegations.

This comes after Mat Zain’s repeated accusations over the past three years that Abdul Gani and the former Inspector-General of Police fabricated evidence in Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s 1998 “black eye” case which he investigated.

He also said Najib admitted to knowledge of Abdul Gani’s alleged wrongdoings when they had met privately in 2008, and challenged the PM to axe the A-G over the latter’s failure to act in high-profile cases such as the death of DAP aide Teoh Beng Hock while in the care of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Putrajaya has repeatedly said, most recently in November, it will not reopen investigations into the case as an independent panel set up in 2009 had cleared Abdul Gani of any wrongdoing.

But Mat Zain said the panel was unconstitutional as only a tribunal, formed by the the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the PM, can investigate the conduct of the A-G.

“There has to be change... we have to propel it and bring back proper democracy,” Lim said.
