We must obey God rather than man — Jacob Sinnathamby

APRIL 28 — Not a day goes by without something troubling or disgusting happening in our beloved Malaysia. Anyone following the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the death of Teoh Beng Hock cannot but be dismayed at how low the country’s institutions have fallen.

In all probability we will never know how the DAP aide died but what we have learnt beyond all doubt is that something stinks in the MACC and, as the old saying goes, the rot is right from the top. The number two officer in the Selangor MACC was caught lying to the RCI when he said that he was unaware that any of his officers were the subject of any complaints of abuse. He said no, but a police officer testified that this was not the case. Day after day, MACC officers come across as either clear-cut perjury or shading the truth. What has become of this country when men and women who swear to uphold the law lie and break the law with impunity.

Don’t forget that this is a RCI, not a tarik session at a mamak stall where fiction often masquerades as fact.
And if you have not been nauseated by the goings on at the RCI, perhaps you were puzzled about the singular objective of Umno/BN politicians to drive a wedge through races in Malaysia. “1 Melayu, 1 Bumi” is the latest in a long list of offerings by politicians who believe that Malaysia belongs to one race and the rest of us are tenants in this country. Should any of us be surprised that the Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has become a major apologist of Utusan Malaysia (please change your name because you do not represent multiracial Malaysia) and its right-wing ideas? He and other Umno leaders have been harbouring anger against Chinese voters, believing that BN’s electoral fortunes in 2008 were the result of Chinese voting with their feet. This anger resurfaced again after the Sarawak election.

Talking about resurfacing, how about the resurfacing of the porn video tape on YouTube. This is what we know so far, the tape is in the hands of Datuk T and the police. And yet here we are several weeks later and the cops are investigating the second instance of the tape (evidence) being on the Internet. It is a fact that some people high up in Putrajaya want to end Anwar Ibrahim’s political career and they are being aided by some people who should know better. So laws are side stepped and Datuk T, the trio who broke a bunch of laws, are free to do whatever they want. Why? Because they appear to have the backing of the powers-that-be.

It is easy to read all the headlines and despair at what is happening to Malaysia. Truly, it is. Then we have to put up with the verbal gymnastics of Raja Petra Kamarudin and Zaid Ibrahim and our mood may grow even darker. Yes, it is certainly easy to get despondent at the blatant lies, lack of integrity, corruption and everything that is going on.

But we are a God-fearing country and we should not despair. As long as we trust in the Almighty, be guided by his righteous ways and do the right thing, we can save Malaysia from these bandits who masquerade as our leaders and protectors. Let us not be influenced or guided by men, no matter what positions they occupy in our society. Instead, Muslims, Christians. Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs and other God-fearing Malaysians should focus on what is right and reject evil.
