Guan Eng presents awards to top visually-impaired students

 
The Penang government today presented five special students who performed exceedingly well in the UPSR examination with cash and certificates of excellence.

However, out of five, only one, Kenzo Yeoh from SK Pendidikan Khas Alma (Sight), turned up to received the award from Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in Komtar yesterday.

"We do not want to delay handing over the award, so we are presenting them now," Lim told reporters after the handing over ceremony.

Kenzo achieved 5As in the recent UPSR examination.

Lim, who presented the awards, said that the other four students, who hail from the mainland, could not make it due to short notice.

They are - Teoh Zhan Peng from SK Hamilton, who also scored 5As, while Norsyazwani Mohd Shapari (2A 3C), Trina Tasya Md Tajudin (2A 2B 1C) and Partiban Perumal (2A 1B 1C) are all Kenzo's schoolmates.

Kenzo and Zhan Peng received RM500 including certificates, while the remaining three received RM250 with certificates.

"We congratulate all the students who received the awards today, with the hope that they will perform better until they attend university," the DAP secretary-general said after the presentation.

"They will be able to contribute to society and the country, by not giving in to the challenges before them but will overcome it all.

"Their performance have not only made the students proud but their parents as well," he stressed.

Lim, who is also Bagan MP, said that the state government will try its best to be inclusive and will not marginalise those from special schools.

Meanwhile, Kenzo said he was thankful to the state government for the token of appreciation.

"Congrats to all those who performed well in exams and we thank those who help special students like me and my friends," he added.
In a touching scene, Lim hugged Kenzo tightly when presenting the latter the award.
