The chief executive officer (CEO) of the Malacca State Development
Corporation (MSDC) has today given his statement to the Malaysian
Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to assist in investigations related to
the wedding of Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam’s son over the weekend.
The CEO, Yusof Jantan, confirmed this today.
“I met the MACC this morning,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar had in Parliament on Wednesday revealed that Yusof chaired a meeting of the MSDC to help make the arrangements for the wedding, with no billing to the CM.
The
wedding was said to have cost RM600,000 and attracted 130,000 people
and this feat was entered into the Malaysia Book of Records.
Yesterday
Malacca PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, along with state
opposition leader Goh Leong San and Malacca PAS deputy commissioner II
Kamaruddin Sidek, had lodged a report with the state MACC.
Yusof,
when quizzed further, declined to comment on Mahfuz’s allegation as the
matter is being investigated by the MACC and he felt the chief minister
is the right source to comment on the issue.
“I am not a politician, let the chief minister explain,” he said.
Prior
to this, a source confirmed that Yusof has not been in his office since
morning and in the afternoon he was scheduled to meet Mohd Ali.
The source however, did not want to confirm that whether Yusof’s meeting with Mohd Ali could be related to the kenduri.
