Dinner organiser Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli told a press conference today that 255 tables would be put up and of these, only 30 were still available to be taken up.
"This is the first time that Pakatan, as a political coalition is organising a dinner for the purpose of raising funds that will be used for the party to contest in the coming general election.
"There will be 255 tables put up, and of these most have been taken up, with about 30 tables priced at RM1,000 each still available," Mohd Hatta (centre, in picture above) said.
"We hope to garner a little less than RM1 million from the event. It is also an opportunity for the people to hear directly from the Pakatan leaders such as Anwar Ibrahim, Abdul Hadi Awang and Lim Guan Eng, who will speak at the dinner."
There will also be auctioning of personal items and memorabilia owned by PAS spiritual leader and Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, Lim, who is also Penang chief minister and DAP secretary-general, and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
The proceeds from the auction would also be channelled into the election funds. Hatta added that nine items will be put up for auction.
Also present with Hatta, who is also Kuala Krai MP, were DAP’s Hannah Yeoh and Selangor PKR treasurer Dr Tan Yee Kew.
Hatta said he knows there are requests from people who are not able to pay for the dinner table to listen to the speeches.
“We are considering to allow them in after the dinner to listen to the speeches. The dinner is of course a private and closed affair but the indoor stadium in itself could fit 15,000 people at any point of time and it should not be a problem,” he said, adding that the dinner is expected to attract 2,500 people.
He added those interested to attend can contact Cik Amani 019-2660423 or Nurul 019-2660605. Those who intend to set up stalls can contact directly Azmer 019-2660634.
