Anwar: Dr M right to say BN will lose forever

Should Dr Mahathir Mohamad's prediction that BN will never regain power if it loses to Pakatan Rakyat be realised, it would be the result of the coalition's own doing, said PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

"He (Mahathir) says once you (BN) lose, it will go on forever. That's true because the entire corruption and mismanagement by BN will be exposed," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today.

"I think he (Mahathir) is implying that under Pakatan government, it will be better managed, more just, better governed that people will find it difficult to support BN," he said.

Mahathir had on several occasions warned that Pakatan will use underhanded tactics to remain power forever if it is successful in ousting BN as the federal government.

Earlier, Anwar spoke at Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar's open house at Pantai Dalam where he praised the over 1,000 participants for turning up despite recent bouts of political violence.

"I thank the crowd here for not being intimidated even though stones rained at our last event (here)," he said.

Anwar was referring to an incident in May within the same vicinity, where an elderly man suffered a bloodied head after PKR's ceramah was attacked by a stone-throwing mob, among other casualties.

Pre-dawn heckling
According to Nurul Izzah's political secretary Fahmi Fadli, a group of youths had heckled party workers who were setting up tents for the open house at 2am today.

"They threatened our workers and wanted them to take down our flags," he said.

However, the group left after a brief stand off.

Fahmi noted that the open house which was held within the compound of Pantai Permai Apartment was a high density area which comprised 20 percent of Lembah Pantai voters.

Taking advantage of this, PKR took its "Lower Car Price" campaign to the lower-middle class neighbourhood with its iconic yellow cheap mobile parked at the open house.

Nurul Izzah had in 2008 shocked political observers when she unseated senior minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil at Lembah Pantai.

Federal Territories and Urban Well Minister Raja Nong Chik has since began pouring massive resources into the constituency in a bid to unseat the incumbent.

Despite acknowledging the challenge, Nurul Izzah had said that she will defend her seat.
