Robert Phang lodges report over book on Gani

Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) advisory panel member Robert Phang has urged the authorities to probe Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail’s alleged abuses of power as described in a new book entitled ‘Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail: Pemalsu, Penipu, Penjenayah?

NONEPhang said he wants the police and MACC to investigate the allegations against Abdul Gani in the 123-page book by lawyer Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

He has also asked the AG to investigate the accusations made and to sue the author for defamation if the allegations are wrong.

“The AG must seriously address the issue made in the public domain and should not be a liability to the government,” he told Malaysiakini today after lodging a police report.

He made the report about 11am at the Jalan Tun Razak police station in Kuala Lumpur.

The 14-chapter book was self-published by Zainal recently.
It includes an open letter from former Kuala Lumpur Crime Investigation Department chief Mat Zain Ibrahim to Kalsom Taib, wife of ex-ACA chief Shafee Yahaya, dated Oct 8, 2010, regarding Mat Zain's response to the latter's book about her husband.

Zainal also claimed that Abdul Gani and a few senior legal officers had committed a crime by creating and falsifying several documents that were supposed to be evidence.

He said one of the documents was Anwar's medical report after he was punched by then police chief Abdul Rahim Mohd Noor.

Zainal also wrote that, other than falsifying court documents, the AG had often twisted facts for his own interests and that of a few political figures.

azlanThe writer also cited news reports Abdul Gani's (left) alleged betrayal of former Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Ramli Yusuff.

Also mentioned was former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan's alleged involvement in Abdul Gani's purported crimes in falsifying court documents. Musa was also the investigating officer in Anwar's first sodomy case.

Due to the allegations made, Phang had last week challenged Abdul Gani to come forward and clear his name.

At a press conference last week, he had urged the AG to take responsibility and not to be a stumbling block to the BN.
