'One country, one soul' - Pakatan's Merdeka theme

Pakatan Rakyat has chosen the theme 'Sebangsa, Senegara, Sejiwa' (One Nation, One Country, One Soul) as an alternate to the official 'Janji Ditepati' (Promises fulfilled) theme for the 55th National Day celebration.

NONEAccording to national laureate A Samad Said (left), who chaired the selection committee, the alternate theme suggested by one Alhaimi Adam was chosen from 250 entries received via email.

"In the end we chose one slogan and adapted it to suit," Samad told reporters at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya today.

"The government may not accept this suggestion, but we have to remember that this comes from the rakyat."

PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali, who was also present, said Pakatan would discuss the celebration of Merdeka on Aug 31 using the alternative theme if the federal government refused to change its theme.

"We will discuss this with the Pakatan state governments and hope that the federal government will accept this suggestion as well," he said.

Pakatan is opposed to the current theme as it is also used in a BN campaign launched months earlier.

Pakatan had previously given the federal government a week to revise the theme, which it said is inappropriate as it is also used in a BN campaign launched a few months ago.

The committee has also advertised via the Internet for suggestions for a new logo and song in keeping with the new theme.

Entries can be made via email to sekretariatpakatan@gmail.com by Aug 5.
