Flyers
accusing Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng of having an affair and
suffering from domestic disputes are making the rounds in Malacca.
According to Oriental Daily yesterday, the flyers contain news clippings about the alleged affair as well as a note on the reverse side, written in Chinese.
Among other issues raised, a section in the flyer states: "For Lim Guan Eng to fall prey to the honey trap is not unusual."
This was because Lim's wife Betty Chew, a member of the Malacca state legislative assembly, "did not wear make up and never accompanied her husband", it says.
As a parting shot, the flyer says Lim was not the first political leader to be accused of having an affair and that his situation paled in comparison with that of former US president Bill Clinton.
‘Residents tore it apart'
The same news report quotes Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him as saying that the flyers, in protective plastic sleeves, were being distributed in a Melaka Baru housing estate.
Some irate residents took the flyers to him.
"One resident who saw the plastic sheet opened it out of curiosity. Seeing that it was a flyer attacking Lim and Chew, she became angry and tore it up," said Sim (right).
He said the flyers were proof of Lim's political enemies engaging in dirty tactics, but he refused to speculate on those behind it.
"Malacca MCA chief Gan Tian Loo raised the issue in the state assembly, but did not dare repeat it in the open. If more flyers show up, then this is a very dirty tactic," Sim added.
Allegations that Lim was involved in an affair with a former staff of his office have been circulating since last year, after he showed up at a press conference with a plaster on his forehead.
Linked to dinner event?
Lim said he was covering a wound inflicted during the Sarawak election campaign, but pro-BN bloggers claim that the injury was inflicted by Chew in a fit of rage over the alleged affair.
The allegation came to national prominence after Gan raised the issue in the Malacca state assembly on July 2.
His exchange with Chew was later televised. Malacca DAP leaders have pointed out that the move was a set-up because broadcasters are not allowed to record proceedings in the state assembly.
Following this, Chew had made an emotional plea to MCA to stop personal attacks against her and her family.
It is believed that the flyers were distributed to coincide with a Pakatan Rakyat dinner event to be held on Sunday night.
