Attacks on Ambiga raise her stature — Soo Lim Chee

JULY 3 — Let Malaysians, on both sides of the political divide, be clear about this once and for all.
That Ambiga is a non-partisan Malaysian woman of courage who fights for one simple cause — a free and fair election — is irrefutable.

Ask yourself, why would the US government choose to honour her with a “courageous woman” accolade?

Only a ‘frog’ under a coconut shell would say that she is a stooge of a foreign power out to topple the Malaysian government. Only a ‘frog’ with a hidden agenda would try to fool other ‘frogs’ under their shells of blissful ignorance. If you choose to be a frog, that is your prerogative. But be mindful that the path you have chosen will be detrimental to you, your children and grandchildren.

Make no mistake, a free and fair election is also the declared aim of our government. So, there you have it — Ambiga and our government share the same objective.

And therefore, any attack on Ambiga is an attack on the government’s support of a clean , fair election!

And any further attack will serve only to elevate her stature in the eyes of Malaysians and the world at large.

Like it or not, the actions of her detractors are beginning to morph her into another Mahatma Gandhi.
Ask yourself again, why would the MIC censure the “hang Ambiga” call? Because the clever people there know that the sort of nonsense spewed by a crass ‘frog’ in our parliament (a caucus of clowns?) can topple a government.

Today, a free and fair election is the wish of the world, from Myanmar to the US. You go against this trend at your own peril. Monitoring and improving an electoral process of any country must be an ongoing exercise, even within a mature democracy. If you don’t maintain a good system, it will deteriorate over time due to complacency.

No Malaysian should be allowed to be abused in the ways that the ‘frogs’ foisted on her.
We should be ashamed that a woman in our midst has been abused while the majority of 1 Malaysia stood by unconcerned, afraid to get involved.

It is just not right to isolate and insulate yourself from your fellow men’s troubles or deaths.
