Updated - RTM prerecorded broadcast open to manipulation

The limiting of airing only pre-recorded party manifestos over Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) will expose the message to being edited and distorted, charged PAS.

"Even now when political leaders want to say something, we already know his statements will be snipped.

NONE"It can be edited, and it won't be the original, and would not convey the intended meaning," said PAS secretary-general Mustafa Ali.

He was responding to yesterday's announcement of Election Commission (EC) chief Abdul Aziz Yusof's that RTM would not be allowed to broadcast political parties' manifestos live in the coming general election campaign.

Mustafa further blasted Abdul Aziz for deviating from the central point of the request for media access during elections, as outlined by the coalition for clean and fair elections Bersih.

One of Bersih's eight demands is for all political parties to have access to the mainstream media, who till now only broadcast positive news related to the ruling party despite some being funded by public money.

He said the EC and RTM, a government-owned broadcasting network, should place some trust on political leaders to allow them to explain their respective party manifestos live on air.

“They have to have some trust in the political leaders. They are all responsible, because if they say something that is not good, the rakyat can see this and make their own assessment,” he said.
