The Najib administration has been accused of failing to stop state
sanctioned racial indoctrination which is seen as the root cause of the
often used pendatang (immigrant) slur.
In a press release today, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang (left) said the use of the term was not restricted to isolated incidents as suggested yesterday by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"The pendatang slur
is not the result of 'one or two lunatics' but the result of decades of
the poison of anti-national indoctrination by state agencies like the
BTN, perpetuating Malaysians into two classes of people," said Lim.
Lim
said the Najib administration must explain what it has done,
particularly through its 1Malaysia policy, to clamp down on such
"lunatics".
He said that such rhetoric should also be classified
as "divisive, treacherous and anti-national" which must be condemned by
all rational Malaysians.
Lim was commenting on Najib's response to questions at a dialogue with Chinese youths at Universiti Malaya yesterday.
Najib had suggested the Chinese community ignore those who use the pendatang slur because they were isolated incidents performed by "one or two lunatics".
Lim
said that the mentality of the so-called "lunatics" were also pervasive
in the highest level of government due to decades of indoctrination by
the National Civics Bureau (BTN).
Among other examples, Lim cited
how Najib's own special aide Nasir Safar was forced to resign after
making racial slurs at a 1Malaysia event.
In February 2010, MCA
and MIC members had walked out of an seminar where Nasir said that
Indian immigrants were beggars while the Chinese were prostitutes.
BTN is a unit in the Prime Minister's Department that is allocated even more money than Parliament in the federal budget.
It is often accused
of being an organised racist propaganda unit operating under the guise
of ‘patriotism lectures', compulsory for government scholarship holders
and civil servants seeking promotions.
