Some 20 bikers went to PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's residence in
Ampang last night in another case of harassment targeted at opposition
politicians and civil society leaders.
When contacted, Azmin's
aide Mohd Hilman Idham said the group of bikers are suspected of
following Azmin home after he officiated the PKR operations room in
Setiawangsa at around 9pm.
"At
Setiawangsa, there were already around 10 people who attempted to
disrupt the launch but they failed because we had over 500 supporters
who turned out for the event.
"It is possible that because of this, they followed him back and created trouble outside his house," said Mohd Hilman.
He
added that the group of bikers did not make any demands but merely
revved their engines and shouted outside Azmin's residence to create a
ruckus after 10pm.
In a Twitter posting, Azmin alleged that the act was perpetrated by Umno Youth, although this could not be independently verified.
"Police
has arrived outside my residence to observe the attack by 20 Umno Youth
members on motorcycles to harass and disturb my family's safety," he
said in a posting at around 11.30pm.
Mohd Hilman said the team of police that arrived managed to disperse the bikers.
"It
appears this has become a trend, especially after the harassment faced
by Bersih co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan at her house; the police has
to investigate this thoroughly," he said.
While Pakatan Rakyat
ceramah have faced a series of harassment, this is the second time it
has been taken to the doorstep of political opponents.
Last
month, some petty traders set up burger stalls outside Bersih
co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan's house and later some army veterans
conducted a "butt exercise" at her gates.
It later culminated in
an aborted night market planned along Ambiga's street but several groups
nevertheless descended outside her house, including group of bikers.
