PKR deputy president Azmin Ali denied claims of a rift between him and
Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim, brushing off the rumours as
"slander".
He told reporters after officiating the election
machinery in Kelantan yesterday that he has backed Khalid all along, as
he has performed well as a leader.
"Some people say there is a
conflict, it's slander. Actually there is no friction, either at central
level or state. I didn't even know of the existence of the Azmin Ali
Club," Malay-language daily Sinar Harian quoted Azmin as saying.
Malaysiakini had reported last week on a covert movement by a group called Kami Sayangkan PKR (We Love PKR) apparently backed by Azmin's (left) fan club to unhorse Khalid's feisty political secretary, Faekah Husin.
The
group has been attacking Faekah through Twitter account @PecatFaekah
(Sack Faekah), for the past three weeks particularly displeased with the
disbursements of funds under Geran Selangorku, a development programme
managed by Menteri Besar Incorporated.
The funds are derived from debts recovered from property developer Talam Corporation Bhd.
Micro to macro in no time
The
campaign seemingly a trivial at first gathered momentum after Azmin
re-tweeted one of the positing on the microblogging portal calling for
Faekah (right) to be sacked as detractors claim that the grants are under Faekah's control.
Asked
on the matter earlier, Azmin, who had succeeded Khalid as state party
chief, had said that the re-tweet was an "accident" but divulged that there have been numerous complaints against the political secretary for months now, without elaborating.
Kalid (right) had said the
bitter campaign being run by a "disgruntled few" against his "capable"
political secretary and hinted that it could very well be aimed at the
Menteri Besar's office in totality.
Yesterday PKR vice-president Tian Chua called for stern disciplinary action against the movers of the campaign.
Sinar Harian
,however, quoted Azmin saying that issue is being played up by
political rival, Umno, desperate to stir up tension between the two PKR
leaders.
"Umno tried and they failed so far and I wish them good
luck. I will continue to concentrate on my efforts with Khalid to
strengthen the party and government machinery ahead of the coming
election," he was quoted saying.
Azmin also commented on PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli's resignation from his Selangor government post, describing it as "normal" and should not be "manipulated".
According to him, Rafizi had quit to focus on the general election which must be called by mid-next year.
"He
has a huge responsibility because PKR and Pakatan Rakyat aim to bring a
new approach, we want to bring hope to the people ," he said.
"He
is responsible for preparing the manifesto, pamphlets, so we feel he
should not be burdened with state level responsibility," Azmin said.
