'Allegations against Daniyar exaggerated'

Recent allegations of impropriety against the prime minister’s future son-in-law Daniyar Nazarbayev were “exaggerated” and had nothing to do with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s family, claims a source close to his wife Rosmah Mansor.

NONE“It is only involves the other side of the family,” the source said, adding that it does not affect the engagement between Daniyar and Najib’s daughter Nooryana Najwan.

He was commenting on New York Post’s article on Tuesday that Daniyar’s stepfather Bolat Nazarbayev had filed court documents at the Manhattan Supreme Court

The documents claim that Daniyar had swindled Nazarbayev of a US$20 million (RM62 million) condominium unit and that Daniyar had gained entry into Columbia University using forged documents.

The source said the case only involves Daniyar’s family because it was a tussle between Daniyar, his mother Maira Nazarbayev, and her ex-husband Bolat Nazarbayev.

Bolat is the brother of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Nooryana Najwa Najib and Daniyar NazarbayevIn addition, the source said allegations in the New York Post that Daniyar had not completed high school and had cheated his way into Columbia University were exaggerated to give the impression that Daniyar did so to woo Nooryana Najwan.

According to a Bernama report, the couple had met while studying in the US.

However, the source declined to comment further as court proceedings are still ongoing.

Malaysiakini spoke to the source during the launch and dinner reception of the NGO Pertubuhan Kebajikan Insaniah Srikandi, officiated by Rosmah last night.

The event at Setiawangsa, Kuala Lumpur last night was also attended by Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam, Agricultural Minister Noh Omar, and Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister’s Department Ahmad Maslan.
