Two cops charged with assaulting photographer
Sa Tombs:
A long time ago (not in the distant past) there was an officer and
gentleman known as Chan Cheng Mun, who took the responsibility for the
wrongs committed by his subordinates. So should not the IGP
(inspector-general of police) be held responsible?Or was Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein giving the orders, which he later claimed were SOP (standard operation procedures). Big words for a man who knows so little about the police force.
It was just like Anwar Ibrahim, who was DPM one day and became a national security threat the next.
They think that we forget easily because they dole out our money to ‘bribe' people to vote for them. I wonder whether they will bribe their way to heaven.
Dood: I'm still waiting for the many dozens of other police officers to be charged for assaulting protesters.
Karma: We pity their children. They will grow up knowing that their father, who is supposed to protect the people, had instead preyed on them. What was in their mind when they beat unarmed civilians who have committed no wrong?
Bender: This is just a media eye candy. And so begins another episode of ‘Drama Minggu Ini' from RTM's most prolific cop-show director Yusof Haslam.
Like every episode of Yusof's lame cop shows, you can predict light years in advance the conclusion for every episode - the cops always win. And that shall be the fate of this drama as well.
Don't believe me? Just wait and see. Personally, I'm not interested in waiting, for I know the conclusion already.
Gunner: Only two scapegoats charged out of a few hundred? Sandiwara, as always the case.
Akutuan: We must have faith in our justice system. We must trust the attorney-general to do his job properly. We must give our PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) a chance to proof that they are fair.
Anonymous_3ec6: Why isn't the top brass taking the responsibility for the men below them? Credit they will claim, but any mistakes, the men must bear.
Typical pariah management ethics. PDRM's drama has commenced. Same script, same ending. Case closed.
Chipmunk: As usual, Umno comes up with two scapegoats. This is no different from the Altantuya Shaariibuu case.
End of the day, the two will go out on bail and the case will be considered as "no further action" (NFA).
Dr Chin Tu Lan: The sandiwara has just started. This sub-grade Bollywood movie is made using cheap actors. The outcome is obvious.
We shall all watch the show as they will make a fool of themselves because they are B-grade actors.
Cannon: From the outward actions so far, gathering from the spinning of the mainstream media giving a totally one-sided picture of Bersih 3.0, the doctoring by Astro foreign news content from BBC and Al Jazeera, wild allegations of communist infiltration and a coup by the Bersih people that's devoid of evidence, and the appointment of an ex-IGP for the inquiry panel, I don't expect much from this episode.
It's too little and too late to impress the public that the intention of the government is real.
Anonymous_3e86: There are many more cops who crossed the line in carrying out their duties.
There was never a need to use brutal force to maintain order. Photos on the web have shown unnecessary and extreme force used on protesters.
Photos of cops kicking protesters who were already subdued and submitted to arrest clearly show the abusive nature of some of the cops that day. Photos don't lie.
Samba: They were ordered to do it. Where were the IGP and DIGP? Bring them to court. And put them to shame.
Democrat: Next, they are going to charge all the protesters arrested and then go for the big guns like S Ambiga, Anwar Ibrahim and Azmin Ali.
So they will tell the people, "Look, we are being fair. We charged the cops, so what are you all complaining about?" Election is near...
TruthSansBorders: My father taught me not to count the chickens before they are hatched. To convict these two persons, the prosecution must seriously prosecute them.
If the prosecution relaxes, they will be acquitted. Only time will tell. Even Abdul Razak Baginda was acquitted.
CiViC: The question is not who assaulted the photographer. The question in court should be why? What was the motive? Why did they do it?
Were there instructions to target people with cameras? Obviously all these will not be questioned in our kangaroo courts.
And the three months' jail or RM1,000 fine is just ridiculous, it doesn't serve any purpose. The court just opened a floodgate to anyone and everyone who just wish to assault another, to get off by paying such low fines.
By the way, what are the charges for assaulting a police officer? Or even verbally assaulting the police? I bet it's higher.
