According to a report published by the English daily New Straits Times today, the former top cop said the Kelantan menteri besar (left) was just another “political animal” who wants to cling to power.“He may be recognised and respected as an ulama because of his credentials, but he is just another political animal who wants to maintain his power in Kelantan,” he was quoted as saying.
Rahim said when Nik Aziz declared that it was a religious duty to support Bersih, people would take it as wajib (compulsory) despite the government’s stand that the rally had violated the laws of peaceful assembly.
Hence, he called on young Muslims to investigate who were the real organisers of Bersih 3.0 and not just follow blindly.
“For Muslims who understand this, they see Nik Aziz as a joker nothing else,” he added.
Responding to Rahim’s statement on Nik Aziz, the Kelantan PAS laws and human rights bureau chief Hisham Fauzi demanded the former to retract his “the father of kafir” remark and tender an open apology to Nik Aziz in 24 hours.
“If he fails to retract the slanderous statement, we will not hesitate to take court action against him,” he was quoted as saying by the PAS organ Harakahdaily.
Rahim (right) also told Malay daily Berita Harian that Bersih 3.0 was akin to Marxist tactics which involved political sedition and propaganda. The tactics derived from Marxism, he said, includes the opposition’s action to damage national institutions by attacking the integrity of the police force; judicial system; and the Election Commission.
“To me, Marxist tactics were clearly used by this group. A good example was that Bersih 3.0 had been aggressively hijacked, which is a Marxist way, although it does not mean they are communists.
“However, the Marxist way of mobilising the masses is not less dangerous,” he said.
Another example of a Marxist tactic, according to Rahim, was the word ‘dog’ directed at the police force during the rally as it comes from the term ‘British dog’ used by communists in the past.
