There is no shame in receiving a sentence for doing what is right, says the PKR strategic director.
PETALING JAYA: PKR strategic director Rafizi Ismail said he is willing to face the legal repercussions for doing the right thing.
“There is no shame in receiving a sentence for doing what is right but there is every shame when you have been exposed publicly for misappropriation of funds meant for the poor without you showing any sign of remorse,” he said.
Rafizi was responding to National Feedlot Corporation (NFCorp) chairman Mohamad Salleh Ismail who accused the PKR man of breaching banking laws.
Yesterday, Salleh met with Bank Negara officials to submit evidence with regard to his claim.
Commenting on this, Rafizi said: “Unfortunately, Salleh and family seem to adopt a different attitude when it comes to their own violation of laws and betrayal of public trust.”
“Up until today, they have not suspended any operation or returned any of the vast assets that they had suspiciously accumulated over the last four years since they withdrew the RM250 million public funds meant for NFC,” he added.
Rafizi also accused Salleh of breaching court conditions when he obtained his (Salleh’s) passport temporarily.
“In his application, he stated specifically that he shall be performing umrah between April 28 and May 5.
“But he never went abroad as he was busy lodging reports against me with the police and Bank Negara,” he said.
Rafizi also said that Salleh’s denial does not absolve him from accusations of unlawfully leveraging on the RM250 million public funds to obtain bank loans to purchase eight expensive properties at KL Eco City.
“What he could not deny was that the bank loans were initially given to him but later withdrawn after the NFC scandal broke out.
“The loan offer was made on May 23, 2011 but cancelled on Jan 4, 2012,” he said.
