Azmin sues Utusan Malaysia over sex photos

KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Azmin Ali is suing Umno-owned newspaper Utusan Malaysia for RM100 million in damages for publishing what he said were fake photographs showing the PKR deputy-president engaging in various sexual acts with a woman on its front page yesterday.

The photographs, which are stills of a video taken from several blogs, depict a man resembling Azmin and an unidentified woman in various compromising positions.

“The allegations and photographs are fabricated, politically motivated and the lowest kind of gutter journalism,” PKR vice-president N. Surendran said in a statement today.

“We hold Prime Minister and president of Umno Najib Razak responsible... it is impossible that character assassination of this scale could be carried out by Utusan Malaysia without the approval and knowledge of Najib,” he added.

He said that Azmin had also issued a letter of demand to Utusan Melayu (Malaysia) Berhad and its editors to withdraw the allegations and to publish a public apology in the Umno-owned newspaper’s front page.
