Stop the lies – Tan Teck Huat

APRIL 28 – Today more than 100,000 Malaysians showed they cared: they turned out to show solidarity with the objective of making our elections clean.

But you can bet that all the novel aims of the vast majority of people will be buried in the Utusan Malaysia, Star, New Straits Times and TV3. Only photographs of water cannons and those which create the impression of chaos and militancy will be used.

Some of their editors and journalists will write columns and commentaries from their ivory towers or only after getting directives.

And guess what? We will troop faithfully to the shops tomorrow to buy paper and be fed lies upon lies by political operatives who are masquerading as journalists.

It is obvious from today’s turnout that there are tons of Malaysians who have their moral compass in the right direction and who care greatly that the coming polls could be decided by “non-citizens”.

But let’s take this spirit of caring one step forward and stop buying the mainstream newspapers from now till the elections are over. We will achieve two goals by doing so: making futile their attempt to influence Malaysians with their propaganda and hitting their bottomline.

So let’s say no to Utusan, TV3, NST, Star, Berita Harian and also to BN-backed sites like Stop the Lies.
