The DAP has embarked on a seven-day online fund raising mission to help
Sarawak farmer Frusis Lebi, whose RM300 monthly assistance was withheld
by the Sarawak agriculture assistant minister, Mong Dagang, for
supporting the opposition.
Expressing sympathy, DAP assistant national publicity secretary, Teo Nie
Ching described the action as inhumane and, totally unacceptable.
She said that just because he reportedly flew an oppostion party's flag
and allowed his house to be turned into an operations in the 2011 state
election is no basis for Mong to instruct two government departments to
revoke government-extended subsidiaries and welfare aid to a disabled
man.
"This
is a clear case of blatant discrimination based on a person's political
affiliation. Mong obviously has forgotten his duty as a deputy minister
to take care of all Sarawakians. Mong indeed is no longer fit for the
position," said Teo (left) in a statement.
She said she had received numerous calls and messages from supporters asking how they can channel financial assistance to the 51-year-old Frusis, who is afflicted with deformed hands.
It appears, she said, many Malaysians out there wish to show their support for him.
"From today until March 14, 2012, the public can bank in their donations
to Frusis in a bank account, where we will undertake to publish the
statement of accounts between the said periods at the end of campaign.
"Thereafter, DAP Sarawak will be in charge of channelling the funds to
Frusis to ensure that the livelihood of his family will not be
jeopardised by the unfair and unjust decision of the Sarawak government.
" It is time to show Mong and his colleagues that Malaysians are more
compassionate than the present Sarawak government," she said.
She gave the RHB account number as 212022-0012-7570 at its Kajang Prima branch for the information of potential donors.
