Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim fears that the recent settlement
between business tycoon Tajudin Ramli and the GLCs is a “cover-up” to
hide corruption involving ministers.
“My
concern is that they are afraid that with Tajudin proceeding with the
case, he will expose corruption, and the deals which may involve the
prime minister and finance minister at the time,” Anwar (right) told reporters in Subang Jaya today.
He was commenting on the out-of-court settlement between the tycoon and the government investment arm, Danaharta.
Anwar said the case involvesd the loss of billions of ringgit in public funds and should not be a matter for private settlement.
“Public funds are involved... MAS suffered serious liabilities... Can you cover that up?” he asked.
Speculations arose over the matter when a federal minister was alleged
to have been making the rounds of the GLCs with court cases pending
against Tajuddin.
Certain quarters have accused the government of trying to settle the matter out of court to avoid it being embroiled in scandal.
