The Umno-owned daily insisted today that DAP leaders and Christian priests had taken an oath during a function shortly after the Sarawak state polls, pledging to install a Christian prime minister and usurp Islam as the country’s official religion.
This is despite the Home Ministry’s “no further action” decision recently on the accusation published in the Umno-owned daily on May 7.
“No further action does not mean it did not happen,” Zakhir Mohamed wrote in a commentary today. Zakhir is also known as “Big Dog”, the pro-Umno blogger who first made the Christian conspiracy claim on his blog before it was published in Utusan Malaysia.
Today’s accusation levelled at DAP comes on the back of the latest attack against Lim’s teenage son, who was accused of molesting a girl at his school.
The Penang chief minister has described the allegations as “barbaric lies” perpetrated by “ferocious Umno beasts” and his Pakatan Rakyat (PR) partners have rallied behind him to condemn the ruling party.
Continuing the barrage of attacks, Zakhir today singled out DAP’s Jeff Ooi, who yesterday called for Utusan Malaysia’s suspension, saying that the government’s refusal to act on the “Christian conspiracy” claims proved the accusations were untrue.
“Ooi himself was a guest at the function and stood in the middle of the circle at the time the oath was declared, along with 40 others, including local and foreign Christian priests.
“The foreign priests present were also those who were ‘on duty’ during the Sarawak state election, which had just concluded two weeks before that,” Zakhir wrote.
“The reality is, the night function did happen as was reported and that ‘oath’ was taken,” he insisted.
Zakhir turned the tables on Ooi, questioning the MP’s refusal to sue his former party division member Mohd Razali Abdul Rahman for lodging a police report on May 13, declaring Utusan Malaysia’s report true.
“If Ooi wants Utusan Malaysia’s licence suspended simply because there was no further action after the May 7 report, what about DAP’s action against Razali?” Zakhir asked.
He sniped at DAP for exploiting the Church as its political platform, saying the incident in Penang was merely a continuation of its campaign from the Sibu by-election last year and Sarawak state polls in April.
“DAP candidates dredged up the issues of unity, corruption and the BM bibles row in great detail,” he said.
